Hussain Sajwani is a revered entrepreneur based in Dubai. He is the founder of DAMAC Properties. His entrepreneurial journey started when he founded a catering company. Soon after, he secured a long term contract with the United States army to supply them with different products in Somalia, Bosnia and the Gulf. Owing to his excellent services, Hussain was able to enter into business partnerships with renowned international corporations such as Bechtel.
When he completed his degree in economics and industrial engineering from the renowned University of Washington, Hussain Sajwani worked as a contracts manager for a subsidiary of ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Corporation) known as GASCO. After establishing the food service business and gaining success with the same, Hussain contends that he decided to venture into the real estate industry by incorporating DAMAC Company. This is after the Dubai government liberalized the market.
To this end, the DAMAC owner sought for undeveloped piece of land. After locating and purchasing it, he planned to construct a 38-story residential building. Hussain Sajwani says that he was elated when potential homeowners purchased several units several months before he could start the actual construction. This success drove him to engage in the real estate business. To this end, he managed to enhance DAMAC’s operations in the Middle East. Hussain posits that he incorporated his catering business with DAMAC, as the company reminds him of where he started his entrepreneurial journey.
